Census deadline is September 30
The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson still needs to push to respond to the Census 2020. The deadline is Wednesday, September 30.
The village has reached 73% mark with a week to go but is still far from 100%. If you have internet access, you can respond here: my2020census.gov/login. If you don’t have the census mailer, you can go here: my2020census.gov/app/intro/state. If you prefer to respond by phone, or have questions, call: 844-330-2020.
Census results will guide lawmakers regarding where to distribute more than $675 billion in federal funding to infrastructure, schools, firefighters, hospitals, libraries and other vital services in Orange County.
Census data also informs how federal funding will be used toward hundreds of programs in the county, including Medicaid, Head Start and block grants for mental health services.

Census deadline changed yet again
So the deadline for Census 2020 returned to its original date, October 31, only to be changed again to October 15. The Census Bureau honored an October 15 postmark as long as it was received by today, October 22.
As of September 25, the village had reached a 73% response rate. The village will provide a final response rate when it becomes available.

Village Folks:
So, Village Hall has continued to run smoothly since we re-opened our doors on Monday, July 6, and visitors have complied with safety plans. The drop-box is always available to pay bills 24/7, located on the drive-through side of Village Hall.
The next Bandstand Concert is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21; it features The Drizzle, a quartet playing funk, soul and R&B. Lots of people at the first two concerts. Please wear a mask when you can’t social distance.

The Village Board is combining its work sessions and business meetings in July and August. The July 20 Business Meeting will be held via teleconference.

SBA Opens Disaster Loan Outreach Centers in New York
ATLANTA - The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced today it will open Disaster Loan Outreach Centers (DLOCs) in New York. SBA is opening these Centers to assist New York businesses and residents with losses due to the severe storms and flash flooding that occurred on July 9-10, 2023. “Our Disaster Loan Outreach Centers are one of the most powerful resources at SBA’s disposal to support business owners and residents in the midst of a disaster,” said Francisco Sánchez, Jr., Associate Administrator for the SBA’s Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience. “Business owners and residents can meet in person with our specialists to apply for SBA disaster loans and get information on the full breadth of our programs designed to help them navigate their recovery.” The declaration covers Ontario and Orange counties, and the adjacent counties of Dutchess, Livingston, Monroe, Putnam, Rockland, Seneca, Steuben, Sullivan, Ulster, Wayne, Westchester, and Yates in New York; Passaic and Sussex in New Jersey; and Pike in Pennsylvania. Customer Service Representatives at SBA’s Disaster Loan Outreach Centers will assist businesses and residents complete their disaster loan application, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status. Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule an in-person appointment at an SBA Disaster Recovery Center in advance. The Centers will operate as indicated below.

Businesses and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets. For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations, the SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any physical property damage. Loans up to $500,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for loans up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. Interest rates are as low as 4% for businesses, 2.375% for nonprofit organizations, and 2.5% for homeowners and renters, with terms up to 30 years. Interest does not begin to accrue, and monthly payments are not due, until 12 months from the date of the initial disbursement. Loan amounts and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition. Applicants may apply online and receive additional disaster assistance information at sba.gov/disaster. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services. The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is July 15, 2024. The deadline to return economic injury applications is Feb. 18, 2025.

Village Summer Recreation Program starts July 8 The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson will operate its Summer Recreation Program for six weeks, from July 8 through Aug. 16. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Cornwall-on-Hudson elementary school. The program is open to children who will enter grades K-6 next autumn. The recreation program offers games, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, special activities and field trips.
Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon June 8 and from 6-8 p.m. June 19 in the Village Hall board room. Parents and guardians must bring a form of identification indicating their address. They must also bring an up-to-date immunization record from the their children’s health provider.
Jenna Park will be the director; she has been an assistant director for two years and a counselor for three years. Former director, Jennifer Borland, will assist her. The program is seeking counselors; the deadline for applications is May 22. Counselors must be at least 16 years old and must attend a two-hour training course. The program is also be seeking a health director this year.
The fee for Cornwall-on-Hudson residents is $175 per child ($350 maximum per family). The fee for non-village residents is $275 per child. Field trips require additional fees. For further information, please call village hall at 534-4200.
